Careers Plan – Year 12 (2026-27)
YEAR 12 AIM: In the sixth form, careers education focuses on preparing students to make good choices, engage in work experience and understand personal development.
RATIONALE: The focus of this year is ensuring that Year 12 students fully understand the range of post-18 destinations and that they have the time and support that means they are empowered to make those decisions themselves with an understanding of all of the available routes.
Term 1
- .CAREERS SESSIONS: Foundations for the Future
This term, Year 12 students will reflect on the transition that they have just made, what they have learned and what they want for the year ahead. Through structured reflection and goal-setting, learners are encouraged to recognise their strengths, experiences and support networks. By encouraging realistic next steps and positive self‑belief, sessions help learners feel prepared to explore opportunities, giving every learner a clear, manageable starting point for their career journey. This follows the Careers Discovery Framework created by the UCAS Destinations Programme.
Students will take the careers-readiness survey (FSQ) and update their Morrisby careers profiles with their current interests and aspirations. Work Experience dates will be released and students will be introduced to the support that they have in school.

Wrotham students have been kindly invited to attend Maidstone University Fair in September.
Maidstone Grammar School will be hosting around 50 exhibitors at the event, representing a wide range of UK universities plus some local colleges and apprenticeship organisations. The following institutions have confirmed their attendance.
The event provides an opportunity to find out more about the range of education and study options available to students after leaving school, as well as the chance to meet representatives and get information about their institutions, courses, entry requirements and funding. We find that the event is particularly valuable in encouraging students to start thinking about their future pathways, even if they are not yet sure what they would like to do.

Year 12 and 13 students are invited to attend What Careers? Live at the London Olympia. There are a range of activities available for students to join; this ensures that they are able to tailor the event to their needs and interests. Activities include: talks from employers and universities, CV clinics, careers advisors, universities and employer stands; a US university zone, and more.

- Workplace Experience: Aspiration Digital Conference
Year 12 students are invited to what will, for most students, be their first ever conference. Aspiration Digital is a one-day digital skills conference designed to educate students on the different roles in digital and various career paths. The topics, career advice and industry insights are relevant to all students in all subjects. It includes a range of topics throughout the day including specialist advice like how to use LinkedIn, through interactive panels, talks and exhibitions.

This term, Year 12 students are supported to move beyond self-reflection and begin actively exploring career ideas through people, places and experiences. They are encouraged to capture possible options, test their thinking and ask purposeful questions. Learners map their networks, practise researching roles and pathways, and prepare for meaningful work experience and careers conversations (e.g. at the careers fair in term 4). This follows the Careers Discovery Framework created by the UCAS Destinations Programme.

In Term 6, students will begin applications on UCAS if they are interested in applying for university.
